I’ve battled procrastination for many years, it just seems easy to do things that are more fun vs. work ...Having read several books in recent years I have been working on it and seeing improvements. This book has 21 clear steps to help incorporate into your life, to build new, good habits.For me, I think procrastination happens due to overwhelm, stress or lack of sleep, perfectionism, and making too many to-do list items. ;) And all the tech distractions , and Netflix...I have been making some changes and love it. The other day I cleaned out my closet and dresser of stuff I didn’t want or need, itemized and took it to Goodwill. Now things look better, aren’t jam packed in, and my life is a bit less cluttered.Awesome! Now I plan to keep practicing the new good habits until they are more ‘normal ‘ for me, and reread the book. Actually I think I’ll type the list and tape it to mirror or cupboard door as a daily reminder of my new path.Many thanks to the author for this book. Learning is great, but still you must apply and do it. He has many tips to assist.
This is HANDS DOWN the most comprehensive, yet clearly presented book I've ever read on this topic. Wonderfully organized and eminently readable, it opens your eyes to WHY you're actually procrastinating, then proceeds to offer all sorts of terrific ACTION STEPS to implement immediately!I didn't realize how much I was avoiding doing all sorts of things that I really wanted to get done. They are now getting done; all those to-do's that were hanging over my head are disappearing. This book has seriously CHANGED MY LIFE! You won't be disappointed!
I love that the author was short on theory and long on practically and that he zeroed right in on real and common procrastination pitfalls such as social media, binge watching series, video games, etc. It also helps enormously that he was a world class procrastinator, worse than most of us! His 21 specific tools are helping immensely! And his recognition of Active Procrastination as one tool in the arsenal was a big relief!
To be fair I skimmed the tips, having skipped the first half of the book which is just preamble on what procrastination is and why it’s bad. Yes i get it. If i hadn’t just finished a different book on the same topic with the same points but i did so i didn’t need it or want it. The suggestions/tips themselves were utterly basic. Anyone that has struggled with procrastination will have already tried these. If you are brand new to the world (eg high school, college, work) it may be helpful to review them. Also as someone with ADD some of these suggestions/tips are actually counter productive. If you are completely unaffected by ADD type mindset and are able to plan and execute everything you set your mind to but simply lack organizational skills or have simply never tried to not procrastinate then this might be for you. It probably won’t help the ‘I tried everything else but it’s a constant battle, give me some new ideas or specific strategies’ among us.Some tip examples: turn off your phone to eliminate digital distractions, hire someone to do the boring stuff.I wish I could return it. :-/
I decided to download this book when I was at the end of my rope trying to motivate myself to complete an important assignment for a college class. The tips in this book helped me take immediate action, and I completed the assignment earlier than normal and to a higher standard than my normal work since I had more time to work on it.The book is concise and to the point, which makes it easy to take immediate action and put the various methods to use.I look forward to re-reading the book and incorporating more of the tips in my daily life. But so far this book has already had an incredible effect on my procrastination!I’ve recommended this book to some of my friends and look forward to seeing how it impacts their productivity too!
Damon hits the mark with this book. I really wish this book had been available to me years ago, as it would have helped me in college. I'm using his techniques now, and I'm grateful I found this book. Shocking how a quick, easy read can be so life changing.
