Ultimately someone will knock this book with a snarky comment that everything in it is available online. That's true, but what our hypothetical critic doesn't tell you is that it would require hundreds, if not thousands, of hours of effort to compile all the information found here. Grizzled old pro researchers will appreciate having a one volume directory of many public record repositories. Less experienced researchers can use this as a tutorial to investigating online databases of public records (i.e., court documents, real estate records, etc.) and public and personal information (i.e., Facebook profiles, etc.). The first five chapters (119 pages) are essentially "how-to" and are excellent. The balance of the book is a state-by-state, town-by-town guide to public records online and one chapter on locating federal court documents. Overall, especially for the price, this book is a very useful and valuable resource.Jerry

I uses this reference book regularly when doing background checks on people that live in other states. Confusing at first, just spend 30 minutes looking into this book, then you will understand it is a reference book, separated by states. Great book and reference tool, a must have for private investigators.

I was expecting for this to have more online sites to be able to use to access public records, most of it was stuff you already can access like county jail information. I was looking for access to criminal records and more information to help in missing person cases.

This book has a lot of good info if you are new to online research. Most of it refers to public records on government sites (which I'm already aware of). I was hoping to learn about maybe some obscure resources I didn't know about, but no dice. Good book for beginners though.

I you can use Google, you know most of this. And the resources they give are mostly iirc PAY per PLAY.

there were a few useful things in this book, but i found little not available in the public domain. don't expect any great revelations.
