This was worth the purchase for the ginger peanut pesto alone! I tweaked it a bit with herbs, but it’s killer. I marked several recipes to try right away. Great timing, too, as my herbs are in full swing now.This goes well beyond your usual pesto, and I highly recommend it. It’s one I’ll reach for regularly.

I'm so pleased I bought this! It's clearly written by someone who has learned to experiment with seasonal bounty. The recipes look great and include interesting garden-harvested ingredients, some of which are things that grow in my area (bronze fennel!) that I hadn't found culinary uses for yet. I'm inspired!

Some great ideas for different pestos and ways to use them. Add pesto to a rotisserie chicken the second or third time you're serving it, and suddenly no one is bringing up that you're having chicken AGAIN. Perfect for summer cooking.

In the spirit of full disclosure, I have to admit that I am a ‘basil addict' and I have no plans to enter any type of recovery program! I grow numerous varieties and make lots and lots of standard pesto. Any book with pesto in the title would immediately catch my eye and pique my interest. If recipes were the only thing covered, I would have been happy, since I have already tried several that are amazing and I am nowhere near close to being done.However, In addition to all the recipes, this book is also jam-packed with beautiful pictures, food history and numerous helpful tips from the author. So far I have made the Spicy Tomato Summer Pesto, the Eggplant, Bean and Herb Scallion Pesto Spread and the Goat Cheese, Yogurt, and Lemon Pesto. All delicious and as the summer garden season is winding down for me, a great way to utilize fresh homegrown produce in new ways. Recipes are broken down into chapters titled: Salads and Soups, Sides and Snacks, Pasta and Grains, Meat and Poultry, Seafood Dishes, Vegetarian Entrees and even one called Sweet Surprises. This book covers so much more than just basil pesto, which I adore, but there are so many other options and the author certainly opened my eyes to many alternatives.Thank you, Olwen Woodier, Storey Publishing and NetGalley for the digital ARC. While I have no qualms about reading it on my tablet, I do keep a shelf of cookbooks in my library and plan to buy a hardcopy to add to my collection. I am the only cook in my household and it is books like this one that reminds me that I never really cook alone when there are authors who provide inspiration, knowledge and share their love of food.

This is a really fun and innovative cookbook, but as it is an entire recipe book for "pesto", you gotta be an adventurous eater. If you have your own garden, even better! This book definitely makes me wish I had a better garden because the sheer amount of fresh herbs and fun that can be had with flavor combinations is inspiring!The recipes are all pretty simple. I would argue that not all of them are "pesto's", considering most of them don't even have basil. There's a recipe very similar to muhammara, hummus, flavored oils and butters, some that are probably categorized as sauces or salsa's over being a pesto. But for the sake of the title, sure why not. So you get a lot of variety, most use fresh herbs (which is great because I never know what to do with them), and while they incorporate a variety of textures and consistencies, they mostly seem really delicious.The book is well organized. There are a LOT of recipes, most with really great photos. I was getting worried that there would only be recipes of what to make without any good examples of how they are used, because while I like the idea of a Date, Walnut, and Mint Pesto, how am I going to use it? The last part of the book gives various ways to use the pestos made and even includes some desserts.Overall a solid book that will be more useful in the summer and to incorporate flavor than one would think.
