After flipping through the book, it appeared to be Minecraft Madlibs, but we didn't really get around to them. We tried one at the end of the Christmas celebration, so no one was really having it by that point. My niece took the book with her when she left. She hasn't complained about them since, so they must be good!
My kid said some of the madlibs didn't really reference Minecraft properly.

My boys are Minecraft obsessed. Minecraft backpacks, Minecraft t-shirts, etc. I got this book as a fun way to reinforce what they are learning in school and it was a huge hit. By the end of our activity, it devolved to lots of "noun: fart" and "verb: pooping" of course but what can you expect with a 7 year old and an 8 year old?! Now that they know how it works, they play with each other, taking turns filling it out. Might buy more for future birthday gifts for their friends.

Team Camelot is the answer, with a lot of help from the FBI!This Noah Wolf (character) thriller doesn’t really stand alone well, as you won’t understand who Noah is and how he came to be so capable, unless you read some of his other books. The characters are a little stilted, but the writing, complexity, and unusual storylines are entertaining reads!
No spoilers here, so if you’re looking for them, please look elsewhere as this is simply an honest review based upon my subjective view of the “Story Lineâ€.If you’ve read the first 12 books in this series, beginning with “Code Name: Camelot†and continued through “Unknown Evil†you probably understand what I meant by “Mr. Logicâ€. If, however, you are not familiar with the series then I truly do recommend that you begin your reading with Book #1, (a 5 Star Read as well) and make your way through the series. They are all very good and none are worthy of less, in my opinion, than a 4 Star Review.That said. Time to move on.Book #13 “Black Harvest†deals with the illegal trafficking of human organs, and Camelot and his team are called in to investigate, and then “terminateâ€, any more detail read the “Author’s Book Blurbâ€.Noah Wolf and the other characters of his crew continue to grow in scope as they seem to do in each consecutive novel as each “plot line†becomes more and more complex. This is something I’ve found true through the series, however in this one author David Archer has once again pushed his limits. It is thrilling and it is suspenseful. I highly recommend this book!
Superbly written!!! Another great read by David Archer. It is so exciting and nice to read a great action story that has so many characters you love. It is also great to read about all the tech that is being developed by E&E to help this team of assassins. That's one of the reasons we all love James Bond movies so much. It isn't just the action, it's the connection we have to cool technology. Bringing in Esmeralda was pure genius, I hope she has a chance to assist on future missions. Fantastic writing Mr. Archer, I look forward to many more great adventures.
I picked up Dave Archer’s first Noah Wolfe book free. Intrigued, I read the next all the way up to the latest: Black Harvest. Caught up the fascinating cast of characters, I read them all. Never disappointed, I followed the exploits of Team Camelot and the various missions, reluctantly pausing to eat, sleep and rest my eyes. Recommend to all you like black-ops stories of danger, intrigue, and bad guys vs good guys!
I like these books and the author. The storyline is fun and believable. I have accepted Noah and his quirks. I love the toys like exploding parts made from a printer. Esmeralda is a bit too far. Of all of the authors characters, I like the new one a lot, Chance . I prefer the books be more believable and those books are. I really like Sam Pritchard but his wife’s computer and Beauregard are stretching things. That said I read them all and appreciate the great value and special release prices offered by the author. I used to love Travis McGee books by John D MacDonald and these are in the same genre. Good guy hero doing good things.
Team Camelot are off on perhaps one of their most dangerous mission, eliminating an evil group who are harvesting human body parts. Noah and Marco manage to infiltrate the criminals but everything falls apart leaving Neil as the only team member who isn't captured or suspected. He pulls himself together and manages to try and save the team. The author has written a tight story with a lot of twists and turns with plenty of action. Is this the end of team Camelot or will they find a way to survive.
Read my review I just wrote about the latest Noah Wolf book and you will see how I feel about all of the books and David Archer. How many times in how many ways can you say how good they are. I don't even hesitate if I get an email that Mr. Archer has a new offering from any of his series. I immediately purchase it. Follow him on Amazon or Bookbub and you will get notices.
Noah Wolf - aka Camelot - not Superman by any means, but a very interesting guy, with a very interesting job, doing a better than average job of ridding the world of undesirables. Wow, John has a big ego and now he has a big book, about himself, to match. It is interesting to read some of the history about Indy car and F1 that threads it way into the book. John pretty much takes credit for inventing everything under the sun. Still not a bad read if you can get through War and Peace you should be able to get through this book.
John Barnard's biography is an excellent book. John is/was a true genius, responsible for many innovations including the carbon monocoque, paddle shift gearboxes, suspension flexures and much more. But like many geniuses he had a ferocious temper, ego and demand for perfection that held his career back from what could have been. This well written book explores both sides of his personality and the result is a well rounded picture of a complex man. Recent works by Newey and Brawn are good F1 design books but this is the best I've read so far. Huge at 600 pages but highly recommended. Plus a surprisingly warm ending featuring Ron Dennis that is truly a highlight. Well done Nick Skeens.
I'm a tough customer - a lifelong club racer, designer, fabricator, student of racecar engineering, holder of hard learned lessons - and I'm constantly disappointed by these kinds of bio's. Newey's, Forghieri's, Bennett's, etc...sometimes interesting stories but always so light on tech that the rest couldn't make up for it. There's still not enough tech in John's book, though More than in anybody else's that side of Len Terry, but the Human stories More than make up for that. You know how much you love Mark Donohue's book? This is Even Better. The Epilogue had me in tears. Thanks for sharing John, and Thanks too to Nick Skeens who tied it all together beautifully.
A compelling and thorough biography of arguably the best Formula One designer ever. Skeen really knows his stuff and this book was painstakingly researched. I didn’t care for many of Skeen’s “humorous†anecdotes about Barnard- maybe it’s just British humor? The biggest disappointment was the complete lack of photos or appendix. I found myself constantly leaving the book to google this car or hat one to get a visual idea of what he was talking about. Even the sample version had photos. Come on, Amazon!
The book is an excellent resume for John Barnard’s engineering experiences, I liked the “fly on the wall†subjectivity the author used which left me in awe of Mr. Barnard’s impressive groundbreaking innovations, particularly the ubiquitous use of carbon fiber to make motor racing as safe as it is today, and the Formula 3 raging driver Sophia Florsch should thank Mr. Barnard’s carbon fiber monocoque Invention for surviving the Macau Formula 3 fatal air borne accident. It’s ironic witnessing the Macau Formula 3 accident at the same time I’m reading The Perfect Car and seeing who was responsible for saving Sophia’s life
I gave this book to my father as a gift and he read the gigantic tome in about two weeks. He said he could not put it down and the story of John Barnard is a fascinating one. The book is now in my hands and I look forward to reading it as well.

Okay, quick message up front - you don’t have to be into Formula 1 or motorsport to love this book. I’ve never been particularly interested in Formula One. I certainly had never heard of John Barnard. I know little about engineering or design. I picked it up, read the first chapter and was hooked.The Perfect Car is an adventure, a beautifully written life-story, and the tale of a passionate inventor working against the odds to change the world he inhabits for the better, to make it stronger, faster and safer, all while keeping his family at the centre of everything – for they are his primary love.Given my general ignorance about Formula 1, I was stunned at how thoroughly I was drawn into this story, through the back corridors of the sport, beyond the glamour where the secrets lie, into the world behind the headlines. I found myself surprised and fascinated by the intrigue, the power struggles, the fear, chicanery and the personal stuff, the panic and self-doubt, the mistakes and blunders, and the moments of world-beating triumph. The funny stuff. The real stuff.The Perfect Car reads like a novel populated by colorful characters, mafia-style plotting and back-stabbing, with secret cars and cunning plots, paranoia and insecurity, deadly crashes, accusations of espionage, and even a tragic home invasion. Not at all what I was expecting.Skeens has clearly tried to find out exactly what makes Barnard tick, to identify where Barnard’s creativity comes from, tracing the crises of his childhood in intimate detail. He describes in fascinating detail Barnard’s later family life and how family was at the centre of everything he did, this fact illustrated with gorgeous little details, such as Barnard’s child Michael drawing hate-figures on a motorsport magazine while overhearing his dad complaining about his bosses.The book is full of surprises. Who would have thought that within the right-wing, white-male world of motorsport, would lurk a male champion of female engineers? Fred Pearce is an award-winning author and journalist based in London. He has reported on environmental, science, and development issues from 85 countries over the past 20 years. My father used to give Sunday sermons about why the world needs The Kingdom of God to save it, and the highlight was nuclear waste. You can argue for man-made solutions to lots of problems, but nuclear waste is the trump card. You just can't get rid of the stuff. And it's the deadliest poison there is. Which is why my sister got into an argument with her teacher and avoided an F by addressing all the reasons why nuclear waste just can't be gotten rid of. So it was with great interest that I read this book and found a surprisingly entertaining history of radioactive fallout.You'll find a lot interesting stuff here, from radioactive tourism to natural preserves on the exclusion zones of fallout, to atom bombs and nuclear testing to leaking stockpiles around the world. There's a nicely balanced style of reporting here that shows both the exaggerations of people with radiophobia as well as the gung-ho attitudes of people who think that nuclear is great, despite it's insanely high price and horrific safety record.This is a light and breezy (ha!) read at 216 pages so you'll polish it off quick, but if you are interested in a brief history of the atomic age this is your book. Highly recommended to history buffs who are interested in the subject but don't want to read something too technical or a scare-mongering or marketing book.
FALLOUT: DISASTERS, LIES, AND THE LEGACY OF THE NUCLEAR AGE is a highly readable account of the damage inflicted on humans by nuclear explosions and disasters, starting with the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima, and continuing through the year 2017. It offers a short but complete history of the Atomic Age.It’s filled with surprising-to-me facts. For example, everyone on the planet received nuclear fallout from the above-ground nuclear tests conducted from 1954-1963--the average human received 0.15 millisieverts (a tiny dose) in 1963 alone. Or, as another example, the best way to dispose of nuclear waste is to reprocess it to extract the plutonium--something that was routinely done when plutonium was used to produce atomic weapons, but that is NOT usually done now that plutonium is used to generate power.This book is a good choice for anyone who wants to get quickly up to speed on the past, present, and future of nuclear energy and nuclear weapons.
If you are curious about atomic weapons and atomic power, if you wonder what is acceptable exposure to radiation, if you wondered what happened at 3 mile island, Chernobyl, and Fukushima, if the question what to do about nuclear waste is something you have wondered about and most importantly if your attention span is compatible to getting your “in-depth news†from Twitter, this is the book for you.This is not to take away anything from this book it is just the subject matter is so broad and so vast that to attempt to cover it in 200 pages is laughable. You get zero details about anything listed above. But he does a good job citing sources to enhance what is barely touched upon it the book.
Radiation is invisible. You can't see, hear, or feel it. Too much of certain kinds will kill you. You have to rely on experts to tell you when radiation is dangerous. And the experts disagree. That is the repeated theme of this book.The first few chapters were both horrific and boring, because they're about early nuclear disasters in the Soviet Union, where little was known about radiation and news was covered up. Terrible things happened but they were far away, a long time ago. The last chapters are about nuclear waste, and equally horrific and boring. Terrible things could happen in the future, perhaps in thousands of years. Experts just don't know.In the middle were the good chapters. Rocky Flats is just a few miles from my house in Colorado, and I paid attention to the stories about plutonium fires. The fires were described in detail, down to the flammable plastic boxes and gloves used to make the bomb pits. Then the chapter about Windscale in the UK was equally detailed, explaining exactly what can go wrong in a nuclear power plant. Chernobyl and Fukushima were also presented clearly.The author proved his case that no expert can say exactly how dangerous any particular radiation is. He presents many cases of people and animals living long lives in nuclear zones. He presents other cases of nuclear disasters causing widespread thyroid cancer. We just don't know what is safe.
I found Fallout completely by chance and was glad that I did. The topic is something I have been intrigued about and a little freaked out by for some time. The book was very easy to read and with incredibly frightening and fascinating content. It really did a great job of painting the horrific picture of the nuclear age from warfare to civilian usage to clean-up. The depth of the research and quality of writing was perfect and easy for a beginner of this subject to understand. I devoured this book and really enjoyed it.
While there are certainly some interesting facts contained within the book, at 216 pages and with 27 chapters (if you include introduction and conclusion) then the average chapter is only 8 pages. Fallout therefore feels more like a stitched-together collection of newspaper articles than long narrative verity. The idea of low carbon baseload electricity has always appealed to me, but an industry fraught with secrecy, incompetence, long-term waste issues and 200-year decommissioning horizons just doesn't seem worth it anymore, with both Germany and France independently coming to the same conclusion.
This book looks at several nuclear catastrophes and the hype around them. Not everything is as the government or big business would want you to believe.

I absolutely loved this book - it starts with some amazing stories from the old history of hockey, most very interesting and heartwarming - it appears to me that Wayne Gretzky found a way to mention every single great old star of the game along with many current stars too. The book later goes on Into some of the stories from Gretzky's career too. All told, an absolutely great book!

Without doing proper reading about what the book was about before buying it I expected all of the stories to be about Gretzky's career. This book is about the history of hockey and all of its great players.
The book chronicles the development of hockey in North America with many personal anecdotes of individual players. It provides a rough framework of the development of the NHL. That said, Wayne is a far better hockey player than he is a writer.
I was surprised that this book ended up in many ways as a historical reference point for the sport of hockey. Pleasantly surprised. The book does cover the career of "99" but does not shy away from the long and deep history of the great sport which is hockey. Well worth your time.
I don't know much about the game and have a hard time following when I watch, but this book is a page-turner. The stories are so entertaining and I appreciate learning a bit about the game's history in between the stories. The book reads so easily and makes Gretzky comes across as a nice, down-to-earth, sensible, and humble man.

Presumably intended as a companion to the video series I haven’t watched, this is a wonderful overview of studio recording technology, tips, and techniques. Fit for the budding studio engineer, informed musician, or the mildly curious, it mixes history and personal anecdotes from people who have seen the industry evolve over decades to what it is today.I enjoyed it virtual cover-to-cover but for a number of errors that could use a decent technical editor. As someone familiar with the subject matter it was still full of informative aspects and interesting perspectives that made it easy to look beyond these gaffes.
I'm halfway through this book and DVD set and my enthusiasm continues to build. It's detailed and well documented classes on sound and recording are very well presented. Alan Parsons has substance, style and the subtle qualities of English humor shine through his presentations . It's an affordable and well developed place to begin to understand Recording as both Science and Art. The book is a great companion to the DVD set. I recommend having them both. I read the chapter from the book before watching the same material on the DVD. Each section of the DVD moves along briskly. The book and DVD series supplement each other and having both makes the learning process easier. This is technical material and not a "light" read. If you have a home studio and want to create, you will learn a lot here. I also recommend watching the PBS series called sound breaking for a great historical perspective about what has happened in the recording field over the last 50 years.
Great book! It includes some useful techniques and features of Parson's recording sessions. I used this book for my student recording project where I tried to recreate a drum sound of some famous recordings, including The Dark Side of the Moon, so this book helped me to recreate it pretty close to the original. Also the book looks fancy with beautiful pictures and good paper, it can be a nice present.
Lot of gems in here, a bit pricy but very enjoyable almost from a "history" buff viewpoint and understanding the emotional process behind the film rather then technical details. I think the series was a bit off, in that at one level it was explaining some very esoteric concepts, and another was attempting to be a beginner guide. I would have dropped the beginner guide stuff, and assumed someone watching this has a basic understanding.
