This is excerpt from an email I sent to Mr. Tamayo.I just wanted to convey to you that I’m really enjoying your full swing and short game books and having great success. I have always had a pretty good short game which always kept me in the game but your method is nothing short of brilliant. As for “Finally: The Golf Swing’s Simple Secret†my first take away was how it removed so much of the clutter I tend to think about during my golf swing, Secondly, and even more eye opening was being able to create lag in transition into the downswing. I can’t tell you how I have tried to establish lag in my swing with little if any success but with your method for the first time it was clear and executable.I will conclude in saying thanks for writing a couple of fine golf books that I wish I would have come across sooner but very happy I have them now.
These swing ideas have me hitting the ball better than ever. The set-up, shoulder move, and light grip pressure make the swing unconsciously repeatable. Forget about your arms, hands, everything you've been taught to obsess about. I wish I'd had this about $5000.00 ago. That doesn't include time spent. I think anyone who has had some instruction in the basics of the golf swing will improve rapidly in their ball striking. The only time I mess it up is when I start thinking about what I should be doing. Hey, it's just 7-8 bucks. A sleeve of good balls (3) costs than that.
This is a good book for anyone having issues with their game. I think that includes all golfers at some time or another. The keys that I gained were the connection of upper arms with body and simply turning your upper body back and through. Ball flight is straight and distance is good. Not a miracle move, no thought of playing on the Champions senior tour but it straightened out my ailing swing. Worth the read and effort.
I don't know how many golf books I've read, probably 50 or more. I also have watch dozen of golf DVD's and hundreds of internet video's.This is the first book I've read that makes the swing simple and easy to understand. In everything I've read or watched, I've never heard the word "CLUB LAG". It makes total sense to me now. I just finished the book last night and cannot wait to get on the course and try it. I will give an update in a couple weeks.I purchased this book for my Kindle at $4.99 which means it cost less that one drink at the 19th holeUpdateI just played two rounds this week. I'm mid 20's handicap that usually means my score is around 103-105Both rounds, I came in with a 94. The important thing is not the score. It's the first time I can ever remember in all my years of hacking that I was around the green in two on most par fours. My fairway woods were amazing. If I could have chipped and putted good, I could have been in high 80's.My wife read the same book and played with me this week to try out the swing. Her score went up and she played terrible .Go figure. I guess some people adapt and respond to different things.
Excellent and straight forward. If you play golf this is a simple fix that yields exponential results. What is important about this swing is that takeaway should follow the slightly inside path he presents in the book. With this move and a very relaxed grip (key) and upper forearms pinned to the chest it's easy to hit mid-flight-trajectory slight draws,
I have played golf since I was 16 years old, took my first lesson when I was 28 years old, and have played sporadically during this time frame------some of the years I did not play at all. I have taken a total of about 8 lessons in my lifetime. The problem I had and still have is that I don't play much due to time constraints. I average 2 to 3 9-hole rounds per month, playing from June til mid-November. Thus, I could never find that consistency that an individual needs to become better. After reading this book carefully twice and performing most of the exercises recommended, I went to the driving range and immediately noticed that most of my drives were hit straighter......drives ranged from 240 to 290 yards. My distance did not change much but a much greater percentage of my drives went straighter--about 90 percent compared to about 45 to 50 percent prior to reading this book. I felt that I really had more control on my drives and I could hit the ball well much more easily! My distance irons also played much straighter and also longer....a big difference was noted after reading this book! I then played 2. 9 hole rounds of golf and noted that my score decreased by about 5 - 7 strokes on each 9 hole game. This was largely due to more consistency in my game----the one plane golf swing really is simpler and allowed me to play with more consistency with noticeably longer iron play. This led to more confidence and a greater enjoyment of the game. I believe that if a golfer is looking for more consistency and a swing that has a greater chance of being reproducible on drives and iron play, then this book is a must read. The advice offered was more beneficial to me than any lesson I took. Also, if one forgets the advice, all that is needed is a quick review of the book---like having your own personal swing coach. The book is readable in a few hours since it is only 104 pages long.Of note is that the book does not really give much advice for the short game.....it does give a few tips for the short game but most of its focus is for drives and distance iron play. At ant rate, I gave the book 5 stars for its ease of readability, solid advice and clear explanations. It is great for the weekend warrior who can't play 3-6 times per week but wants to improve their swing and have a greater enjoyment of the game!

I have an above average IQ and I've always been interested in psychology (I have studied a good bit of it.), but some of the areas in the book are difficult to follow. Not most of them, but a few topics I had to read multiple times and I still didn't understand what point they were trying to make.I was stuck between 3 and 4 stars because I'm disappointed in the book as a whole... But I'm still glad I bought it. Most the ideas here are very interesting. But they are more of a starting point than simple explanation of the whole idea. Some of them are so specific I think it would be hard to follow up with Google to learn more about the topic. That being said I have learned concepts that I didn't know existed. It definitely covers a lot (not all) areas of psychology.(I've included photos of Contents. Sorry about the highlighting! As you can see some of the chapters have a silly title that don't make sense until you read it. Like: 'The magical number 7, plus or minus 2')This is a book that very few people will read cover to cover. You would most likely fall asleep. I found it most satisfying to read topics I thought might relate to me. I also skimmed through some of the chapters with a title that made no sense. Like, the "Dormez!" chapter is about hypnosis. There were also a lot of concepts that had nothing to do with the title.I don't know, I think this book must've been written for a very specific person because it wasn't what I expected. The "Big Ideas Simply Explained" is more like, "A Little Taste of Big (specific) Ideas".Another disappointment to me was that a lot of the studies provided as evidence were made between the 1950's - 1970's. For example, the concept about child development between infant and mother. The idea was that in the first two years of life, if child and mother didn't create an attachment or if the mother was detached, the child would suffer from emotional problems that appeared during adulthood. (Not able to make one-on-one relationships or attachments with one person.) This bond could not be replaced by the father because the father was hardwired to be the provider. back in the 50s through 70s it was uncommon for mother to be a provider. Therefore there couldn't have been sufficient studies on families where mother was a primary provider. Which we all know that is the case often with families today. Plus a LOT of single parent families.Of course this book is based simply on ideas from specific experiments and studies. A lot of the topics in the book don't give a lot of evidence as to why the psychologist believes one way or the other, just that he/she DOES believe it.It's still a good book in my opinion. It's a good way to come to your own conclusions or look further into each idea. It's just not a hard facts kinda book which I guess is what I was looking for. "Ideas" is the main word here.UPDATE: The more I read into this book the more I realize that this book would be PERFECT for small group discussions. (Maybe in like a classroom setting.) It's kinda painful to read this alone because a lot of the topic's conclusions are based on preferences and opinions. I'm sitting here in my mind like "No way, how could someone think that!" And I end up telling my side of the story to my husband--who has no idea what I'm going on about. There's more "dud" topics in this book than there should be, but there's few that are really interesting and get you to THINK.I hope my review was helpful to you! I would probably buy the book again if I could, just with different expectations.
Somewhere between a textbook and a coffee table book, The Psychology Book is a surprisingly valuable. Initially drawn to the fun cover and positive reviews of The Philosophy Book, I decided to give this a shot and ordered a copy. My initial reaction was disappointment, it seemed a too textbooky. But as I read and skimmed further (it's a book that I suspect few will read cover to cover), I started to appreciate the helpful effectiveness of what the DK editors have done, allowing one to get important, core ideas quickly.After presenting the philosophical roots of psychology (think the intersection of philosophy and phsyiology), the book is organized according to different psychological approaches or schools of thought such as behaviorism, psychotherapy, cognitive psychology, and social psychology. There is a timeline and brief history for each school followed by an encapsulated entries of key thinkers in that discipline. Here is where the design and editorial approach shines, as you can peruse the pages and find psychological thinkers who you may know little or nothing about and get the essence of what they focused on quickly. Each heading has a "capture the essence" quote which makes it easy to know whether you want to explore further. My one complaint is the book, just glancingly mention Irv Yalom, who is both a great writer and highly respected psychotherapist. If you haven't read or listened (I loved the audio version, which includes an interview with Yalom) to his master work, Love's Executioner: & Other Tales of Psychotherapy, I strongly recommend it and have given it as a gift many times. Definitely a must for anyone with a literary bent and an interest in psychology.Some quotes/outtakes I liked:>"The good life is a process, not a state of being" --Carl Rogers (p.130)>"Suffering ceases to be suffering at the moment it finds meaning." --Viktor Frankl (p. 140)>"Compulsive behavior rituals are attempts to control intrusive thoughts." --Paul Salkovskis (p.212)I especially like this last one, as it's interesting to think of our obsessive thoughts (even if we don't engage in compulsive behavior) as attempts to control or prevent uncomfortable thoughts or emotions instead of just trying to experience them directly, as they are.There are many nuggets like that in the recommended book.
This is my kind of book. I am always furthering my education beyond what I am learning at University. Because I am still in college and reading constantly I really appreciate the format of this book. It is organized by the different divisions of psychology from social to child and within are the most significant people, theories, experiments, and concepts in a short story format. This makes it easy to learn a lot of information on limited time. This book is to the point on each subject and filters though unnecessary information and gives you what you need to know right away. I can enjoy learning new things outside my coursework because this book gives information in this short story format. I have taken a couple of courses in psychology but this book does not require the reader to have previous information in psychology in order to appreciate the knowledge the book contains. After this book I bought the religions and philosophy book by this publisher and will buy the business one as well when it comes out. Overall for the learner who is limited on time this (and others by the publisher) are for you. If you want something that is more specific, get something else because this one is an overview of all.
Very large books but I LOVE this style. The pictures, the descriptions. I am very visual and have a hard time comprehending when reading but with the added colors and pizzazz to the pages it keeps me entertained and wanting to learn more.
I got this for my boyfriend for Valentine’s Day last year (2/14/18) and he loves it. I’ve read it too and it’s very understandable and interesting enough to keep you reading. I’ve read psychology books at college level and this is much more engaging than a textbook if you want an overview of comprehensive basic terminology and concepts.

So, Hanamichi is determined in proving to her that he can excel in basketball but also hopefully winning her heart.But because of Hanamichi’s lack of manners and basketball knowledge, he has gone through training to learn the fundamentals and from Team Captain Akagi and others on the team, he has learned to sharpen his offense and defense slowly. But most recently, learning the importance of rebounding but trying his best not to foul out (a major problem that Hanamichi has yet to figure out).In volume 10, the intensity of basketball and the strategy is the main focal point for “Slam Dunk†as the Prefectural Tournament has now reached the semi-finals.For this volume, we get to see Shohoku High School playing against Shoyo High School, a team known for its players height advantage. While height is an advantage, Shohoku must find a way to counter it and to beat Shoyo, they must work as a team.Once again, Takehiko Inoue’s artwork is simply wonderful. His illustrations have always been a highlight for me and I was always amazed of how he captured movements, the offensive and defensive stances to how the players penetrate the perimeter and score. But what I enjoyed about this latest volume is showing Hanamichi’s progression as a player. While he has learned the game quickly, he is still learning the fundamentals and finds himself worried because he fouls out of a game too quickly. So, it’ll be interesting to see how he improves from this latest challenge.As for the manga, the detail of Inoue’s artwork is just wonderful, the action, the sweat, the emotions are captured amazingly well on each page.Overall, “Slam Dunk†is an enjoyable manga series that is not just for basketball fans but for those who want a manga series that captures the spirit of basketball, competition, the strategy involved in the sport but a captivating storyline with cool characters that makes this series worth recommending!And in volume 10, the semi-finals are Shohoku High’s most difficult matchup yet!Love basketball and manga? If you want to read a sports comic, then you should look to manga. This excellent basketball manga is well drawn and entertaining. It does a great job capturing the mentality of a team of high school basketball players. It does an excellent job of clearly illustrating the players on the court; you can always tell what's going on in each panel. It's even exciting for people who aren't into sports (like me). So if you're into sports, or into comics, don't be afraid to pick up Slam Dunk.Volume 10 follows the boys of Shohoku high school as they make their way through the semi-finals of the basketball tournament. But if they want to win, they have to get past second-ranked Shoyo, whose towering players present an incredible challenge. It's Shohoku's skill and athleticism versus Shoyo's height and power in this intense battle on the court.
